About RCAH
The Residential College in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University is a unique living and learning experience for undergraduate students interested in literature, history, ethics, the visual and performing arts, and the study of languages and cultures. Students live and study together in historic Snyder-Phillips Hall while enjoying all the academic and cultural resources of a world-class university.
Students in the college gain a deeper awareness of the human condition, broaden their personal perspectives, and develop leadership skills that prepare them to become citizens of the world. They're part of a diverse, intellectually stimulating environment that enables them to reach their full potential. Because all of our classes have 25 or fewer students, they're soon on a first-name basis with our faculty and staff, who take a personal interest in their success.
The RCAH major reflects the four cornerstones on which the college was built – world history, art and culture, ethics, and engaged learning – and includes core courses, seminars, community projects, language study, creative workshops, and a capstone experience. Four different elective pathways enable students to customize the major to their own interests, making their MSU experience truly unique.
RCAH students live and learn together in Snyder-Phillips Hall, a historic building at the heart of the MSU campus that is a center of creativity and imagination. Students have room to move – to dance, to sing, to play music, to act, to create art, to write – in a custom-built environment that includes their own classrooms, theatre, art studio, gallery, media center, and music practice rooms. They live in renovated residence hall rooms and eat in a new dining hall that provides an array of menu choices. It’s a place that inspires academic achievement and creative accomplishment.
From their home base in Snyder-Phillips Hall, students can explore the diverse resources of one of the nation’s most distinguished public universities. MSU provides students with dual degree and specialization options, significant undergraduate research opportunities, the chance to study with scholars at the cutting edge of their fields, and more than 550 student organizations.
