Biography

Rachel Frederiksen is an active bassoon private teacher and reed-maker from Texas, currently based in Lansing, Michigan. As an educator, she has taught bassoon to students from 6th grade beginners to advanced seniors in high school, taught the bassoon methods course at Michigan State University and Baylor University, and taught 5th-12th grade music and band at Nixon-Smiley CISD. She currently serves as a returning reed-making instructor to the Texas Lutheran University Summer Music Academy during the summers.

She received her bachelor’s of music education and bachelor’s of music performance from Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX under the tutelage of Dr. Mark Rogers, and played in his community band, The Heart of Texas Concert Band, in their 2013-14 season. She pursued her masters degree at Baylor University under the guidance of Dr. Ann Shoemaker. In May 2017, she graduated from Baylor and received a full tuition waiver at Michigan State University to pursue her terminal degree. Currently, she is a second year DMA graduate Teaching Assistant in bassoon performance under the direction of Prof. Michael Kroth. When she is not busy performing, teaching or reed-making, you can find her at home with her cat, Callie.
