Celebrating Justin Morrill College: A Gathering of the JMC Community

The faculty, staff, and students of the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities would like to invite you, the Justin Morrill College community, to a special weekend celebration on October 21 and 22, 2016. Guests, partners, and spouses are welcome.

You’ll have the opportunity to reconnect with friends and faculty, tour the MSU campus, share a meal together at Cowles House, and see an inspiring program that will spark memories and re-ignite the inspiration and creativity that marked the years of Justin Morrill College.

Friday, October 21

Welcome Reception and Check-in at the MSU Museum: 5-7 p.m.

Let us welcome you back to campus at the MSU Museum. Be sure to pick up your nametag here for all of the JMC Celebration weekend activities, then reconnect and socialize with fellow alumni and former JMC faculty. Sparty will be on hand to greet you and be available for your photos from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Storytelling event at the MSU Museum: 7-8 p.m.

Listen to your fellow alumni and former faculty's stories or write a tiny tale to be shared about "remembering how it all began" at this weekend kick-off event, hosted by Bill and Linda Trevarthen. Collect your welcome bag with the weekend itinerary, map, and goodies before you leave.

MSU Museum is located at 409 W. Circle Drive. Access the elevator from the west (left) front entrance. You do not need to go up the central stairs to enter.

Parking is recommended in Ramp 6 (Olin Health Center/MSU Union parking ramp), which is accessible via Grand River or E. Circle Drive. A limited number of spaces are available in front of the Museum for guests with accessibility needs. See parking map for additional details.

Saturday, October 22

Brunch or lunch on your own

Enjoy a meal like Spartans do today. Eat at The Gallery dining hall in Snyder-Phillips or at one of East Lansing's many restaurants. Brunch and lunch menus are served in The Gallery dining hall on Saturdays. Through 10 a.m., the cost of a meal in the dining hall is $6.25. After that, the price is $9.99. Cash and credit card are accepted. If you have registered for the FRIB & Fairchild Theatre tours, please be sure to wrap up your meal in time for the 12:45 departure time.

Snyder Hall is located at 362 Bogue Street. Parking is recommended in Lot 9, across from Phillips Hall on Physics Road. There are also a limited number of parking spaces available in front of Snyder, along Bogue Street. See parking map for additional details.

Welcome and Check-In Table: 12:15-12:45 p.m. and 2:30-3:15 p.m.

If you were unable to join us Friday evening at the MSU Museum, let us welcome you back to campus and provide an opportunity to pick up your nametag and welcome bag. The JMC Welcome table will be located in the lobby of Snyder Hall.

Guided Tour of FRIB & Fairchild Theatre: 12:45-3 p.m.

Meet outside of Snyder Hall (362 Bogue Street) to load the bus by 12:45 p.m. Alumni will travel to the MSU Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) and Fairchild Theatre for guided tours of both spaces. Space is limited to 45 and the tour is currently full.

Tour of the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities: 3:15-4 p.m.

Meet in the Snyder Hall lobby (362 Bogue Street) for a tour of the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities' (RCAH) theater, art studio, Language and Media Center, classrooms, and LookOut! Art Gallery. RCAH student photographers will be ready to take your photo in front of Snyder Hall.

Break: 4-5:30 p.m.

Reception and Dinner at Cowles House: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Join your fellow JMC alumni at Cowles House for a buffet-style dinner and conversation. Welcoming remarks will begin at 6 p.m.

Cowles House is located at One Abbott Road. Parking is recommended in Ramp 6 (Olin Health Center/MSU Union parking ramp), which is accessible via Grand River or E. Circle Drive. A limited number of spaces have been reserved in front of Cowles House for guests with accessibility needs. See parking map for additional details.

Program at RCAH Theater: The JMC Vision, Past & Present: 7:45-9 p.m.

Gather in the RCAH Theater for a participatory program centered on what the JMC experience has meant for the lives of alumni, faculty, and staff, and how the JMC legacy lives on in RCAH. The RCAH Theater is located on the terrace level of Snyder-Phillips and is accessible via stairs or elevator from either building entrance.
