On March 14-17, 2017, special exhibit S.O.U.P. will be featured in the LookOut! Art Gallery on the second floor of Snyder-Phillips.
A special performance of S.O.U.P. will happen March 14 and 15 at 5:30 pm.
This intermedia installation features dances for camera created through a collaborative process by Ana Baer (MEX/US) and Rosely Conz (BRA/US). Informed by themes such as foreignness, belongingness, and identity, S.O.U.P. merges visual art, video, and dance through evocative images and powerful metaphors. This multilayered event is presented with the participation of the Orchesis Dance Company.
S.O.U.P. was first sponsored by the Atlas Black Box Experimental Studio, Boulder CO, in September 2016.
Rosely is a Brazilian dancer, choreographer, and educator. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally, funded by both Brazilian and US grants and awards. Her research and creative projects question notions of foreignness, belongingness, and immigration. She currently teaches at Michigan State University and directs the Orchesis Dance Group, a student organization that brings together the community and the academy.
A Mexican video-choreographer living in the US, Ana’s work encompasses a variety of kinds of dance for camera work, as well as interdisciplinary performances and choreography.
Internationally active since 1990, Ana has been commissioned to make video installations, multimedia work, and/or choreography in Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Guatemala, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, the UK, Mexico, and the US. A founding member of Avant Media, Bitcho Maria Productions, and Merge Dance Company, she has been Artistic co-Director of the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema since 2004. In 2014 she co-founded WECreate Productions. She is currently teaching video dance and classical dance at Texas State University.
