Join the RCAH Center for Poetry on Wednesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. in the RCAH Theater for an evening with poet Barbara Presnell. You can also join her for an informal conversation at 3 p.m. in C302 Snyder.

Presnell grew up in Asheboro, North Carolina, and her love of writing and reading started at a young age. She writes in a variety of genres but "the purpose has remained the same: to tell the story of a people, a region, and a way of life, and to attempt to portray a complex South, rich with history and tradition, but plagued by heartache and frailty. Hopefully in my words, a reader will discover not just the Southern experience but the universal human one that transcends region, dialect, and culture."

Presnell has been the recipient of a number of literary awards, including the 2006 Cleveland State University Poetry Center First Book Prize, the 2004 Linda Flowers Prize from the North Caroline Humanities Council, and the 1999 Oscar Arnold Young Award from the Poetry Council of North Carolina.

Her works include:
Snake Dreams (1994)
Unravelings (1998)
Los Hijos (2002)
Sherry's Prayer (2004)
Piece Work (2007)
