Why Mali Matters: Teach-In

On Tuesday, February 19, from 2 to 7 p.m., join the African Studies Center for a teach-in titled "Why Mali Matters." The event will be held in rooms 303-305 in MSU's International Center.
 
The keynote address (2 to 3:30 p.m.) will be by Ambassador Vicki Huddleston, U.S. ambassador to Mali, 2002 to 2005. Huddleston served both as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs in the first term of Obama's presidency. She has written and lectured widely on the current crisis.
 
Following Huddleston's address, the following panels will take place:

  • Panel I, 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.: Historical Roots and the Current Crisis
  • Panel II, 5:30 to 7 p.m.: Implications for MSU Engagement with Mali

Closing remarks will be made by Ambassador David Rawson.
