Grit, Glam, and Guts

RCAH is proud to sponsor Grit, Glam, and Guts, a teen empowerment program for girls ages 12-17. The program’s mission is to connect and engage girls to local youth social development programs, civic engagement activities, and educational opportunities that promote social change, eliminate barriers to success, and maximize potential.

In addition, the program empowers girls to gain higher self-awareness, develop a healthy self-identity, and recognize and engage in the power of their voice. The program emphasizes that it takes grit, glam, and guts for any woman to make it in today’s society. Grit represents the necessary hard work to reach goals. Glam is the beauty of wisdom and compassion birthed from experience. Guts are the passion in our hearts to push us to our purpose.

Grit, Glam, and Guts is a multi-tiered approach that includes three pathways to achieving its mission. They are through participatory workshops, project-based mentoring, and resource and information sharing.

Each summer, Grit, Glam, and Guts hosts a one-day conference in Lansing, Flint, and Detroit, a one-week residential summer camp in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University, and academic programming throughout the year at Eastern High School and the Lansing Art Gallery in Lansing and at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint.
