The Language and Media Center (LMC) supports media production and world-language proficiency in the college through an array of resources and services. It is designed to provide a technology-rich space for creating, learning, and collaborating. In the LMC, you can plug your guitar into a computer and record a song; watch a foreign language film; learn to make and publish your own website for free; print out large banners and posters; and so much more. Students can also work as LMC consultants, who help teach how to use media production applications like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro as well as give feedback on creative projects.
The LMC offers a suite of rooms designed to facilitate learning, collaboration, and composing. Our conference rooms seat groups up to eight and are equipped with flat screen monitors that can be used for presentations or to watch films and other media.
The LMC has numerous resources that support language learning:
The LMC supports media production, including websites, videos, music, spoken-word compositions, digital animation, and a wide variety of print materials (posters, banners, brochures, etc.). Our computer workstations are equipped with specialized applications like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro. We provide access to peripherals like color printers, a wide-format photoprinter, digital cameras, camcorders, microphones, and digital voice recorders. Our midi keyboards and digi-tal conversion boxes allow users to compose and record music.
The Language and Media Center aims to support proficiency across a wide range of media, including print media. Our workstations are equipped with professional desktop‐publishing and graphics‐editing software such as InDesign and Photoshop, and we have two printers for outputting a wide range high‐quality print compositions: a color laser printer and a large‐format photo printer. There is also a Netprint printer where you pay on a per-sheet basis. Find more information about printing in the LMC here.
Members of the RCAH community can check out some equipment from the LMC. Standard items can be checked out through LMC student consultants for one week; other items can be checked out for up to 72 hours through Dave Cable. Dave is typically in the LMC from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. If you would like to meet with him outside those hours, please call (884-1326) or email (email@example.com) to set up an appointment.
The LMC is staffed with student consultants. If you are interested in working in the LMC, please contact Dave Sheridan.
