Advising

What Is Academic Advising?

Advising in RCAH supports the classroom learning by partnering with the students in their planning, exploration, and understanding of their academic requirements and career options. Your academic advisor is a full-time, professional staff member who will assist with your academic planning—everything from orientation to graduation.

Students should maintain regular contact with their advisor—at least one or two advising visits per year—plus additional visits whenever academic or personal concerns arise. Students are expected to know degree requirements and to take a lead role in developing a plan of study that supports their academic and career goals.

By working closely with their advisor, students learn how to take full advantage of the vast opportunities available at MSU. Academic advisors can help students incorporate study abroad, study away, dual majors, specializations, and internships into their programs.

What Is Career Advising?

Career advising is much more than just careers! In a one-on-one meeting with Ally, you can cover anything from how to talk about your major and what you might do with it, learn about all the resources at MSU that can support your career exploration during your time on campus and beyond, get help with resume writing and interview tips, graduate school applications, job search strategies and everything in between. Career advising appointments will help you explore your interests, prepare for internships and life after RCAH, and get connected with people, organizations, and your interests.

Login into Handshake (www.joinhandshake.com), clicking “Career Center” then “Appointments,” and look for appointments with “RCAH-Allison Fox,” or email Allison directly at foxallis@msu.edu to set up a time that works better with your schedule.
