Elizabeth LaPrelle is a singer and banjo player with a special interest in Appalachian balladry. She recorded her first album, Rain and Snow, at age 16, and her second, Lizard in the Spring, at age 19. LaPrelle learned from field-recordings, books, family, friends, and tradition-bearers like Sheila Kay Adams and Ginny Hawker, and she graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2009 with a self-designed major in "Southern Appalachian Traditional Performance" under the guidance of Professor Chris Scales. Additionally, LaPrelle performed at the 2011 Great Lakes Folk Festival in East Lansing and has been featured at festivals across the country; in two Music from the Crooked Road national tours; and on the radio show A Prairie Home Companion.
