Exhibit: Quilts & Photographs of South Africa
Mon, May 13, 2019 - Fri, September 27, 2019 at the LookOut! Gallery
The RCAH LookOut! Gallery presents
Reframing South Africa: Quilts & Photographs
featuring two MSU collections
curated by Marsha MacDowell and Jessica Achberger Martin
Exhibition open:
May 13-September 27, 2019
This exhibition draws together objects from two campus collections: quilts from the unique collection of African quilts at the MSU Museum and photographs, recently acquired by the MSU Libraries, taken by American photojournalist Leonard Freed (1929-2006) in the lead-up to South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994. Together, these objects reframe ideas about art and the end of apartheid in South Africa.
Reframing South Africa: Quilts & Photographs is open until September 27, 2019. The RCAH LookOut! Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Snyder Hall (C200) on MSU's campus. The LookOut! will be open for Fall semester Monday-Friday from 12 p.m.-3 p.m beginning Monday, September 9. Free and open to all.
