Applicants are sought for Perspectives on African-American Experience: Emerging Visions, a juried group exhibition in the RCAH LookOut! Art Gallery at MSU from January 15 through February 9, 2018. We will bring two or three of the exhibiting artists to campus over the course of the exhibition for two-day visits that will include an artist’s talk, class visits, workshops, and campus engagement. Honorarium, transportation, meals, and lodging will be paid.
This is the seventh in an annual series of exhibitions and visits by emerging and mid-career artists whose works reflect on African-American experience past or present and represent art as social activism. This year’s iteration commemorates the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To this end, we will exhibit works that focus on the issues King addressed in his often-downplayed but still relevant later years, specifically peace and economic justice.
The Residential College in the Arts and Humanities is a living-learning environment in which creative explorations in the arts and humanities are cultivated through emphases on transcultural studies, ethics, civic engagement, and the activist roles of these disciplines in shaping social change.
