Vincent Delgado of the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) at Michigan State University has received the Award for Outstanding Service to Education Abroad from MSU International Studies and Programs (ISP).
The founding director of the RCAH Program on Sustainability in Costa Rica, Delgado and other honorees are being recognized “not only for their individual achievements, but also for their dedication to innovation, inclusion and collaboration in their work,” said Steven Hanson, associate provost and dean for MSU International Studies and Programs. “These shared values are what makes the global Spartan community so special.”
Now in its 30th year, the international awards program celebrates contributions by MSU faculty, students and community members in international research, teaching, and engagement.
“This MSU International Studies and Programs award is a fitting way for us as colleagues to announce to all just how proud we are to have someone of his stature and dedication represent our University across the globe,” said RCAH Dean Stephen Esquith.
ISP will honor the recipients during its International Awards Ceremony on March 31 at the Huntington Club in Spartan Stadium.
In addition to the Costa Rica education abroad program, Delgado—a co-founder of the Lansing Refugee Development Center—hosts similar education programs in Costa Rica for adjudicated youth from the Lansing area, community leaders from Lansing who work with RCAH students on other civic engagement projects, and other MSU faculty, donors, and friends of RCAH.
“His enthusiasm for education abroad empowers students and excites the imagination of community partners,” Esquith said. “His stamina, working literally non-stop from coast to coast to establish and maintain homestays and community engagement projects, is phenomenal. Through it all, he remains positive and compassionate.”
