Farmers Market and Food Pantry Manager at Allen Neighborhood Center
Hi Julia! When you were making your college decision, what led you to RCAH?
The curriculum, small classes, and opportunities for close community in residential setting.
How did RCAH prepare you for life after college?
RCAH inspired a passion for social justice, civic engagement, and specifically food systems and public health focused career paths.
How long have you been the Farmers Market and Food Pantry manager at Allen Neighborhood Center?
Since January 2016.
Where did you work prior to that?
East Lansing Food Co-op.
Can you think of any meaningful experiences from your college years?
I learned how to defend my RCAH degree to non-believers of all kinds, and this impacted the way I use persuasive language to talk about anything I’m passionate about.
"RCAH inspired a passion for social justice, civic engagement, and specifically food systems and public health focused career paths."
What classes and professors were notable for you?
Laura Delind’s 292B course about urban agriculture profoundly impacted my trajectory and inspired me to pursue food systems as a focus and specifically the sustainable agriculture and food systems specialization at MSU.
Are the arts, humanities, and community engagement still important to you today?
My job is focused on neighborhood engagement and community building. Outside my job, I have a passion for consuming, discussing, and sharing stories told through all types of media that support the imagining of a better world and inspire me to keep fighting for that.
